CLAYTON, N.C. -

Clayton Police have now been informed that a four-year-old boy who nearly drowned in a fountain Sunday morning at a Child Development Center has died.

At 8:50 a.m. today, Clayton EMS was dispatched at around 8:50 Sunday morning to a possible drowning near Charleston Drive in the Riverwood Athletic subdivision, according to a release sent out by authorities.

Authorities found a four-year old boy in a fountain.  Authorities say the boy was with his parents while they were cleaning the center.

The parents noticed the child missing and searched inside of the center first and then search outside where the child was found unresponsive in the fountain pool, according to officials.

According to Clayton police, the father began CPR before Emergency personnel arrived to the scene.  The boy was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh where he is currently being treated.    According to police, the boy was reported to have autism.

Clayton police are continuing the investigation.
